I strongly welcome the publication of the Climate Change Action Plan for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
The Climate Change Action Plan marks a significant step forward in the Council’s efforts in combating the causes and impacts of climate change. It sets out the step by step actions we must take to reduce our carbon footprint as a County.
The plan deals with five key areas;
• Energy and Buildings,
• Transport,
• Flood Resilience,
• Nature-Based Solutions
• Resource Management
In rolling out this Plan, we will continue to demonstrate local leadership across a range of action areas, with the aim of supporting other sectors in carrying out their own climate change efforts, in particular citizens, businesses and community groups across the County.
The key targets of this plan are:
• 33% improvement in the council’s energy efficiency by 2020.
• 40% reduction in the Council’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
These targets will be achieved by many initiatives well underway, such as retrofitting council housing stock, upgrading public lighting with LEDs and switching the council fleet to electric vehicles.
