Construction has begun on Dún Brí, formerly Dundrum Central, on the site of the old Central Mental Hospital.
The Land Development Agency and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council will deliver 934 new homes on the 11-hectare site, which has long been closed to the public. Of these, 753 will be affordable purchase and cost-rental homes and 181 will be social homes. The first phase will deliver 547 affordable homes, with the first residents expected to move in by late 2028 and the full scheme completed by 2030.
The mix of apartments, duplexes and community homes will suit families, first-time buyers, older residents and renters. Equally important are the services being built alongside them, including a community centre with indoor sports facilities, a medical centre, a creche, a café, shops and a new public plaza.
